Lylie Fisher was born in Australia.Her early art exploration involved considerable involvement in theatre and film, and her professional life traveled a similar path.Upon graduating from art school she commenced a 15 year career advocating for the arts and developing innovative community arts programs.She became a recognized leader in a flourishing Australian public art movement.Her driving force was innovation and excellence.In the 1990s she led a national campaign to encourage, educate and inspire community based art organizations to embrace new technologies.The Australian Government recognized Ms. Fishers contributions by awarding her a once in a lifetime Australia Council Community Cultural Development Fellowship in 1998.This grant supported her to undertake an International Visiting Artists program at San FranciscoStateUniversity.Ms. Fisher is now a permanent resident of the United States and has continued to be an advocate of cultural activism in local communities.
In 2003 she was awarded a one month Artist in Residence at the historical artists retreat at Weir Farm in Connecticut, which is part of the National Parks Service.This very productive experience encouraged her to launch Art Harvest, an arts curation and outreach service for the nonprofit community. In addition to creating her own artwork, Ms. Fisher also teaches art and creative expression techniques from her studio.
